I'm a veggie, so not a great advocate for any F&C shop.
However, the occasional bag of chips sorts the occasional hangover or occasional carb craving right out!
    Facts:
Midgleys is on the way home from my office.
Midgleys was the fish and chip shop used in the series "Fat friends" although they put a different sign up for the filming.

    Anyway, I digress.
What they do do that is truly INCREDIBLE and I have not seen in other chip shops is...Cat scraps.

40p for a bag of bits of fish offcuts and bones etc!  I cook them up and the cat (and dog) go madferrit*.

*that Mad for it. not mad ferrit

These were the best fish and chips I think I've ever had!! I love abroad and wanted to have some while I was back in my home town. I'd not eaten Midgeleys before but I know where to go next time. The fish was cooked to perfection, the chips were perfect, and I got some delicious scraps too! Far too many chips to manage so we shared a medium portion. Even then we couldn't finish. Thoroughly recommended!

This Midgley's has been around for years, unsurprising as it always turns out quality fish and chips.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been down here at a lunch-time, and I've never been disappointed by it - cripsy batter and chips that are not too greasy, all piled under more scraps than you can shake a stick at make Midgley's a safe choice.

It's also often full of older generations, which suggests to me that it must be good, as everyone knows old Yorkshiremen really are the fish and chip connoisseurs of the world.

We have eaten here a couple of times. Their fish and chips are always fresh. The portions are also very large.

They are always busy! And open late night during the week. Although on the weekends they close earlier.

They conveniently have a co-op cash point outside as I believe they accept cash only.

I wouldn't normally bother leaving a review about a fish n chip shop but I searched this out so others DO NOT make the same mistake as myself. I live very near to this place & have for over a year now. My wife & family have always lived round here & have told me not to use this place a number of times but on this occasion I thought "what the hell, it can't be that bad"
It was!! I got fish cakes & chips & THEY WERE INEDIBLE!! The chips & mushy peas were ok but the fish cakes were overcooked so badly that the potato slices were reduced to about 2mm thick & rock hard. The batter was also rock hard & the fish that's between the potato was like rubber.
I also noticed that as it was 6pm it was very quiet, only 1 other customer
who was only buying chips!! maybe I could have taken them back to complain etc but I didn't know how bad they were going to be until they were dished out & I didn't think it was worth the petrol (4x4 lol) I just don't want someone who doesn't know to make the same mistake as myself when there are lots of other chippy's in the area which are much better & actually most of them are cheaper but they're not having to pay for an expensive refurb........ Forget the décor & sort your frying skills out!!
